Ram recalls 76,000 pickups for braking concerns
[ 0 ] December 21, 2010 | Rick
Ram Trucks manufactured between March 2009 and October 2010 and equipped with a diesel engine and Hydroboost brake system may experience slow brake pedal return. This issue is created by excessive venting by the power steering reservoir cap. Slow pedal return can also create delayed reaction of the brake lights turning off, potentially causing an accident.

Chrysler will notify users of affected vehicles and dealers will replace power steering reservoir caps free of charge. The campaign for this recall is due to begin in February 2011. Concerned owners may contact Chrysler directly at 800.853.1403 and reference safety recall number K33.

Ford may Resume Second Place Among Car Sales in US

The collective corporate entity known as General Motors resides in first with a 19.3-percent share. Toyota, which was in second place, saw its marketshare slip to 15.2 percent due to its recall issues.

Thus Ford is in the position to reclaim second place in the sales race. The American automaker already has its hands on 16.4 percent of the market. The hotly selling F-Series pickup trucks continue to dominate the sales chart with 473,461 units sold through November. Trailing in second is the Fusion at 196,590 midsize sedans. The Focus (159,679), Escape (172,335), and Edge (107,345) have also done their part to keep the masses satisfied.

Lincoln has seen a 7.4-percent boost in sales through November. Mercury has been blowing out its inventory and is seeing a 2.3-percent jump on limited inventory. In total, Ford Motor Company is up 21 percent for the year through November while the industry gained 11 percent. Come 2011, Ford will officially be the second-largest automaker in the U.S. in terms of sales.

Last year, Ford claimed 15.3 percent of the market; in 2008, they held 14.2 percent. George Pipas, Ford's U.S. sales analyst, says, "it's the first time since 1993 that we [Ford] have gained share in the U.S. back-to-back two years in a row." You'll have to look back to the 1980s for the last time Ford added one or more points of market share as well.

Chrysler recalls over 76,000 Ram Trucks over Flawed Power Steering Reservoir Cap

A design flaw in the cap of the power steering reservoir has Chrysler recalling around 76,000 of its 2010-2011 Ram pickups.

2010-2011 Ram Pickup Truck

The Problem: Certain diesel-equipped 2010 – 2011 Dodge Ram trucks use a hydroboost braking design that taps additional power from the power steering system. According to Chrysler, a design issue in the cap of the power steering fluid reservoir could result in excessive pressure and affect the brake pedals, making them slow to return after use. Slow brake return leaves brake lights on longer which, according to the NHTSA, may result in a crash.

The Fix: Chrysler states it will notify all Ram owners of the recall starting in February to bring their truck in for examination. If the vehicle has the defective power steering reservoir cap, the automaker will replace it free of charge.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 76,122 Dodge Rams, all built from March 2009 through October 2010, may be affected.
